Accelerate Through the ball!

Here is a very simple yet effective drill to help you stop jabbing your putter. You will find that when you are put under pressure especially on shorter putts, you will tense up and stop on the stroke.

Here’s the drill:

On the putting green, find a hole where you will be hitting a relatively straight and flat putt.

  • Place a pitching wedge face down, with the thinner part of the shaft closest to the club head is on the line of your putt. (See Photo)
  • From a distance of 3-4 feet, hit the putt so that it bounces over the shaft, into the air and goes into the hole.

If you jab your putt, it won’t have enough roll or topspin to get over the shaft.

This is also a great mental image for you to take with you on the golf course.

Give it a try, and if you get stuck, come and see me for a putting lesson, it will improve your putting!
