News Letter 17th October 2019
THE BEFORE AND....
SUMMER PREPARATION IS COMPLETE
Our summer preparation is complete and with the past two weeks of recovery, the greens are starting to speed up slightly.
Stephen will still need to implement several verti-cuts and dusting in the coming weeks. This will help the greens speed up and become slightly firmer.
The fairways are starting to show fruit from the weekly rain we have been experiencing. Mounds take an enormous battering during dry windy days and we will therefore be applying some fertiliser on most needed areas in the coming days.
With the greens recovering, it is important to note that pitch marks are more evident than before. The slightest impact from a pitch shot creates an indent. It is therefore important that every golfer checks the area where they assume their golf ball landed and repair if needed.
Repairs to the front left bunker on number 12 will be completed within two weeks. This will mean that Stephen can start focusing on the 6th hole. The 6th holes bunkers are a major task and will require some time to complete.
For those of you who have enjoyed practicing out of them, you might need to start using the practice green facilities instead.

NEW HANDICAPPING CHANGES
EFFECTIVE 1 OCTOBER 2019
Your Handicap Index calculation will in future be based on the average of your best 8 Score Differentials from your last 20 scores, with no further adjustment.
All Handicap Indexes were recalculated overnight on the 30th of September 2019.
The impact will be different for each golfer, so your Handicap Index after 1 October 2019 might be slightly higher or lower than your previous Handicap Index. This is due to the combination of the average of the best 8 of the last 20 scores and the dropping of the 0.96 multiplier.
The new handicapping changes came into effect on the 1st of October 2019.

RECORDING YOUR ROUNDS OF GOLF PLAYED
We have noticed an increased buzz around as to whether or not scores can be entered if they are played on courses that have preferred lies.
We contacted Golf RSA regarding this and their answer was as follows:
All rounds played, except for those played in unauthorized formats, played on unrated courses or played without a marker, must be recorded.
Along with the above, we encourage all members and their guests to enter their scores within the prescribed 24 hours after opening a round as players are not allowed to make any changes to penalties for people who “simply forgot” to enter the score.
The Handicap Network is monitoring these unrecorded rounds very closely and will send us a report of the current open rounds. Please note we are only allowed to remove a penalty in extenuating circumstances.
THE PRO SHOP REPORT
A SHORT GAME STRATEGY
The Short game is something that not too many golfers spend time on in practice or even stress about too much. However, this part of our game, is one of the most important aspects that one should spend time on.
So today we discuss chipping in a bit more detail and focus on the psychological side of it.
How often, when we are faced with a chip, will one automatically grab the sand wedge or 60 degree lob wedge? In my personal opinion one should only use those wedges when you need to clear a bunker or have very little green to work with.
If you are struggling with the chipping part of your game then rather select a club with much less loft, like your 7 or 8 iron, and roll the ball, especially so if you have a lot of green to work with.
Plain and simply put, it is easier to predict the roll of the ball than to predict the amount of spin to apply. This, of course, will in turn also help you develope better feel around the greens.
Some good news from the "Pro Shop" is that we have just received some new Ernie Els shirts in the shop and at the perfect price of R399,99. Surely something that will suit your pocket. Be sure not to miss out on this special!
