Fitch and Leedes surprised the Ladies with a promotion of their new Grapefruit Tonic on Tuesday. Be sure to give it a try on your next visit to the club! Nothing like a refreshing G&T after a round of golf.
ANIMAL WELFARE DAY
We would like to thank each and everyone for donating to the Animal Welfare during August. We managed to raise over 200kg if food and just under R1500 in cash.
We handed it over this week and it came just in time as they were on their last bag of food!
Congratulations to Brandon Bernardo on winning the 8 free rounds at Humewood!

THE BIASED TRADITIONALIST
Humewood has been blessed over the years with some of the most loyal sponsors and supporters and the club, without a doubt, could not have thrived the way it has without them.
I’d like to take this time to thank each and every one of them – we have begged and pleaded and negotiated, but at the end of the day – without the support of our sponsors, we wouldn’t be able to host competitions, do upgrades to the clubhouse, buy new equipment… the list goes on and on. Sometimes, I feel, we forget what the sponsor has offered or given – we play golf and leave without even acknowledging them.
Sometimes, all it takes to secure a sponsor for next year, is a bit of loyalty from the players, guests and members to stay for the prize giving or tough out the beastly easterly.
Showing the support to the sponsor in the same way in which the sponsor shows his suppport to our members and our wonderful course.
Next time, please stay an extra 30 minutes or stick to your tee time…. And above all, keep the shoes clean. 😊

PRO SHOP REPORT
"Playing the ball on a slope"
Let us discuss something which we as Humewood golfers deal with during every round - viz. uneven lies on the fairway. This is mainly due to the natural contours and layout of the course.
The key thing to do when you are faced with this type of shot is to ensure that you align your body position correctly in relation to the slope. In other words if the ball has stopped on an uphill lie, ensure that your body position is aligned with the gradient of the slope.
From these pictures you can see that I lean with the slope so as to ensure that my angle of attack is the same as the slope. This allows me to make sure that my strike of the ball at the bottom of the slope is more solid.
However, as players, we also need to be careful and aim slightly to the right as the ball flight tends to go to the left. This occurs because of our adjusting the angle to the ball. This happens because our hands tend to close more and thus rotate the toe of the club. The ball will also launch much higher so be sure to select an extra club.
The main purpose or objective for this setup is to ensure that the hands pass the ball before the club gets to impact. This will allow you to chip with more of a crisp strike. Have a look at the pictures below for a clear understanding:
Here you will find the general setup a player would take due to your our normal experience and natural habits. Unfortunately due to your shoulders and chest being closer to the ball, you will have a much steeper attack angle causing a miss hit and consequently not the desired result.
If you have any questions about this topic, feel free to always come and see me.
