Some interesting facts about the course:
It is consistently ranked as one of South Africa's top 10 golf courses.
It was opened for play in October 1931 and hosted both the SA Amateur and SA Open in 1934. It went on to host the SA Amateur 10 times, the last being in 2007, and hosted the SA Open 5 times, the last being at the end of 2006. The Open will be returning at the end of 2009.
It hosted the Goodyear Classic from 1984-1992, and champions include John Bland, Denis Watson, Tony Johnstone, Fulton Allem and Ernie Els. Their winning scores are on record as some of the highest on the Tour.
The great Bobby Locke considered Humewood to be the best course in South Africa, rating it alongside the best links courses in Britain. He said that Humewood Golf Club was good enough to host The British Open should this Championship ever have to played outside of Britain.

Bobby Locke (22 yrs old) won the 5th of his 9 SA Open titles at Humewood in 1940, by a runaway 10-shot margin.
Sid Brews won 2 of his 8 Open titles at Humewood in 1934 and 1952. At 53 yrs, he was the oldest SA Open Champion in 1952.
Harold Henning won his SA Open title at Humewood in 1957.
